Supercross, part one

Peter had bought tickets for us to see the AMA Supercross races at PacBell Park last night, but the doctor gave the big ol’ ix-nay on that excursion. Fortunately, Kim was bribeable, and so we two lovely ladies drove on up to the big city to see the races.

We had to park about a half-mile from the stadium, which was much more a problem for Kim and her still-healing recently-broken foot than it was for me. She kicked ass, though, and didn’t threaten to kill me even once.

There were ten races in all, split between the 125cc and 250cc classes. The progression through the races is a bit confusing; I had to look it up on the Supercross website to understand it. Here goes:

125cc:
Heat #1: 6 laps, 20 riders, 1st – 9th places progress to the the main race, 10th – 20th places progress to Last Chance
Heat #2: 6 laps, 20 riders, 1st – 9th places progress to the the main race, 10th – 20th places progress to Last Chance
Last Chance: 4 laps, 22 riders, 1st – 4th places progress to the the main race
Main Event: 15 laps, 22 riders

250cc:
Heat #1: 8 laps, 20 riders, 1st – 4th places progress to the main race, 5th – 20th places progress to Semi 1
Heat #2: 8 laps, 20 riders, 1st – 4th places progress to the main race, 5th – 20th places progress to Semi 2
Semi-Final #1: 6 laps, 16 riders, 1st – 5th places progress to main, 6th – 16th places progress to Last Chance
Semi-Final #2: 6 laps, 16 riders, 1st – 5th places progress to main, 6th – 16th places progress to Last Chance
Last Chance: 6 laps, 22 riders
Main Event: 20 laps, 20 riders

More tomorrow, going to bed now….
