Installing a Turbo City Borrego rear rack on the XT225

what you'll need:
Time needed: About a half-hour

background.
Another travel modification for my ride from the SF Bay Area to Seattle. Racks are always really useful, though!

procedure.
First off, use a 12mm socket to remove the grab rail bolts on the lefthand side of the bike.

On the righthand side of the bike, remove the grab rail bolts (also 12mm) and the exhaust hanger bolt and washer (13mm socket).

The stock exhaust hanger bolt sticks out too far for the Borrego rack; use the shortest bolt that came with the rack -- plus the stock washer -- and remount the exhaust. The bolt takes a 6mm hex wrench.

Here's the stock exhaust hanger bolt (on the left) with the shorter-headed bolt that comes with the rack:

Install the Borrego rack loosely over the rear of the bike:

When mounting the rack, guard rails, and turn signals, they go on in just that order. Use a 6mm hex wrench to tighten down the long mounting bolts that came with the rack.

That's all there is to it!

result.
The rack looks nice installed and feels very secure. I'll update this page after I've had a chance to ride around a bit and see how it does!
