first things first.
I hope everyone is OK, as well as your friends and families. My sincere sympathies to anyone who has suffered a loss during this horrible week.

i'm very lucky, i realize...
...because the only way in which I was directly affected by Tuesday's events was that I was pretty sure that the Hawk GT clip-ons I'd ordered wouldn't make it here by the weekend. They were sent air mail from a foreign country, which I figured would be the two black marks signifying an infinite delay. So I was totally thrilled to come back from lunch today and find a package sitting on my chair, which had obviously been opened in that "let's see if those are really motorcycle handlebars like the customs sheet says" way, but that nevertheless contained two nice, black, tall clip-ons.

A quick call to the Honda dealer confirmed that my ordered parts had arrived there, too, and so now there's nothing between me and a lovely Saturday of wrenching except for, well, Friday. But that's not so bad. And then I'll be able to ride again. Huzzah!

It's really been a tough last few weeks for me -- not really for any concrete reason, but I've been more tense than usual. I know the wrist pain has had a lot to do with that, but I hadn't really realized how much of a stress relief riding really is for me. If I have a bad day at work, I'll take the long way home on the motorcycle, and 15 miles later, I'm usually in a much better mood than when I left the parking lot. Riding really gives me a chance to think, and enjoy being alone. Even though I'm perfectly capable of thinking while driving a car (which probably comes as a relief to those of you who also travel along the same roads that I do), and I'm definitely alone most of the time, it's just not the same. There's the radio/CD player, which I'm always thrilled about the first few times I get in a car after a long stint of riding, but which always seems to lose its novelty after a few mornings' commutes. There's the bulkiness of a car in general, which, let's face it, just isn't sleek or fast or sexy. OK, well, maybe some cars are, but certainly not a grey '97 Saturn. There's the...sameness. I've been watching for bikes on my commute, and I've been surprised at how few I see. I guess there are always more riders in the summer, but we haven't hit the rainy season yet...it's a good day if I see two motorcycles on my daily commute, both directions combined. It's sad. Though I guess it's kept me from leaping out of my car, knocking the rider off the bike, and commandeering it away happily down the street. So that's a good thing.

No other news of import or consequence to report. I'll definitely post pictures and a wrenching report of the Great Clip-On Swap this weekend. I'm so excited. :)
