learn from my misfortune!
Check out the newest addition to the how-to section: using a screw extractor! I swear, that Nighthawk eats bolts just to spite me.

it's short attention span theater!
My wrists are a bazillion times better this week, which of course meant that my allergies flared up and I'm now in sinus confusion land. You know, where you're not really sick, but are merely experiencing the world as if wearing a tight turban of gray cotton candy. So my apologies in advance if today's entry is even more nonsensical than normal.

relationship turmoil.
The 2002 Honda VFR. Peter loves it. I think it looks like a constipated wasp. So far, the count is three for wasp (me, Ceej, and Stephen), and only one sad little vote for not-wasp. Neener neener! Help Peter pick up the shattered pieces of his broken ego or help us crush it further beneath our SVS-riding boots by telling the mailing list your opinion.

Hey, I warned you I was loopy.

I'm very excited. Why, might you ask? Because this week, I will be obtaining bike parts. Many many bike parts. I will be getting:

  • One pair of used Hawk GT clip-ons, including one internal weight, for the SVS
  • One additional internal weight, plus all the rubber bits to hold it in, for the above clip-ons
  • One pair of spiffy new bar end weights for the above clip-ons
  • One pair of spiffy new barrel-shaped gel grips for the above clip-ons
  • One new cylinder head cover gasket for the Nighthawk
  • One new alternator-side crankcase gasket for the Nighthawk
  • One new cylinder head cover bolt for the Nighthawk (grumble grumble)
  • Two new cylinder head cover bolt rubber washer things for the Nighthawk
And all for the low low price of under a hundred bucks. I'm so happy. :D

The Nighthawk parts are relatively boring; after doing the valve adjustment on it this weekend, I wanted to replace the major gaskets, and then the damn bolt snapped, so I needed a new one of those.

I'm très excited about the clip-ons, though, since they will hopefully enable me to actually ride the SVS again. Tom Chapel, god bless 'em, swapped his SVS clip-ons for the Hawk GT ones, with tremendous success, and was kind enough to write up a web page about the ordeal. He says that the GT bars put the grips up about 3", back about an inch, and about an inch further out to the sides. This sounds perfect for me, to get my weight off of my wrists, so I'm going to give it a shot. Thanks to the wonderful people over at the Hawk GT website, I had a used pair of GT clip-ons in the mail to me two days later. Yay! I'll still need to go to a bike parts store in order to buy the gel grips and bar end weights, but that'll be a fun trip. I'm very excited. Hopefully that'll happen this weekend.

OK, all of my energy just zapped out. I'm cutting this short and going to bed. I'll try to finish this entry up tomorrow.
